What is Henna Brows?

Henna brows are a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment that has gained immense popularity in recent years. Unlike traditional brow tinting, Henna Brows not only colors the hairs but also stains the skin beneath, providing a fuller and more defined look to eyebrows. This natural dye is derived from the henna plant and is renowned for its safety and ease of use.

Why Choose Supercilium Brow Henna?

Supercilium offers a range of Brow Henna colors crafted to complement every skin tone and achieve long-lasting results. Their products are formulated with 88% natural henna and are vegan-friendly, ensuring a high-quality, safe experience for both clients and professionals alike.

PPD IN BROW HENNA

PPD (paraphenylenediamine) is a chemical substance used in hair dyes that is often added to traditional Henna to make it appear black. This Black Henna is often used to create temporary tattoo’s and can cause severe allergic reactions when high volumes of PPD have been added. The allergic reaction can occur immediately, or sometimes up to 7 – 14 days after being exposed. Typical symptoms of an allergic reaction to Black Henna include:

  • Itching
  • Blistering
  • Burning sensation
  • Pulsing sensation
  • Swelling
  • Sensitized skin

It is important to take note of the volumes of PPD used when choosing a Henna product. Some black henna pastes contain no natural henna at all and are completely artificial with paraphenylenediamine listed as the key ingredient.

The percentage of PPD in Black Henna normally ranges from 8% to 29%. The maximum amount of PPD in Supercilium henna powder is 1,5%.

FAQs About Henna Brows:

How many Henna treatments can I do from 1 kit?:

1 henna jar = up to 56 treatments
6 henna jars per kit
= Up to 336 treatments per kit

How much Henna powder do I need per treatment?

1 measuring spoon = 0.25g
½ – 1 spoon per treatment will be sufficient
Each henna jar is 7gs therefore up to 56 treatments per jar

What is the life span of the henna jars?

Six months once opened and 2 years whilst sealed.

How should I store my henna jars?

Ensure you store the Henna in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. If you leave your henna in the light, in an opened box, or in a hot place, it will lose its dye potency.

If you choose an intense mix of dark brown and black henna and the person has a warm undertone, how would this affect the colour on the skin if both are cool colours?

All the cool tone henna powders are good for both warm and cool undertones. With a warm skin tone, the cool colour will become warmer because of the undertone. Don’t be afraid to use a mix between black and dark brown on a warm undertone for example. On the other hand, very warm colors (e.g. Auburn) don’t look good on a cool skin tone. If you want to make the colors warmer you can add a little Auburn to the colour (Please note this will also make the colour strain slightly lighter).

Can black henna be used on its own without mixing in any other colour or would it be too harsh on the skin?

Yes, it can be used on its own. We would suggest using it on its own on dark skin, otherwise, it will be too dark. The color black has the maximum amount of 2% of PPD in the product. This is approved by European regulations.

Once Henna is mixed the paste must stand for 5min before application. If it stands for longer than this does it lose its potency? Is there a maximum amount of time it should stand out for?

It can stand around 1 hour and after this, it will slowly lose its potency.

How long will my henna brows last?

Henna results will vary from one individual to the next as it is largely dependant on skin type and aftercare. Drier skins will retain the henna stain on the skin longer than oily skins. Typically a henna stain can last up to 2 weeks on the skin and 4-8 weeks on the hair. Remember to provide your clients with the aftercare advice to help maintain the look for longer.

What is the difference between a brow tint and henna brows?

Henna tint penetrates deeper into the hair follicle, making the tint last longer than a regular eyebrow tint. Henna will also stain the skin under the eyebrow, helping to create fuller and more defined brow shapes.

When can I wash my face after the henna brow treatment?

Advise your clients not to get their brows wet for at least 24 hours post treatment. This includes the use of cleansers, toners and moisturisers on or around the brow area.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding women have henna?

It is safest not to perform the henna brow treatment on pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Can I use henna products to tint eyelashes?

Henna products should never be used to tint eyelashes. They are designed for use on eyebrows only.

Can I perform a henna treatment without a patch test?

This is not advisable. All clients should receive a patch test 48 hours before the treatment. You can risk invalidating your salon insurance should a reaction occur and it is found no patch test has been performed.

How long should my clients wait in between henna treatments?

We advise waiting 4 – 6 weeks in between treatments.

Can I apply Supercilium Henna immediately after a Brow Lamination treatment?

We don’t recommend these two treatments be carried out in the same session.

Are Henna products safe to use on top of existing Microblading?

The Supercilium Henna products are completely safe to use on top of existing Microblading, as long as they are fully healed (we recommend waiting up to 2 months after the Microblading procedure before completing any other treatment on the area)
