True: Only if you do not visit a professional. The eyelash extension process itself does not hurt and should not be uncomfortable. When a stylist applies eyelash extensions to your natural lash, you should not feel any discomfort during the process. Pay attention to whom you trust your eyes!
If you are uncomfortable during the procedure and your eyes hurt after the application, or you feel a tingling sensation in your eyelid and irritation, then you should contact your stylist and seek medical assistance. If the eyelash extensions are applied correctly, then you should not feel any discomfort but untrained lash artists can cause errors, which could lead to you suffering the consequences.
A patch test for the adhesive should be done prior to the application as some people may have an allergic reaction to this. All good lash artists should do this, if it is not offered, you may want to think twice about using them.
False: If your stylist uses verified and quality materials and is regularly educated in the field of eyelash extensions then there will be no damage to your natural lashes. It is important that eyelash extensions are not too heavy (the thickness of classic eyelashes are very important – 0.20 is too much for most lashes, except for really strong natural lashes) or too long relative to natural lashes.
Any good stylist will be fully trained to know exactly what length and thickness will suit each individual client to ensure no damage occurs to the natural lash. During the eyelash extension process, it is important for your stylist to isolate natural eyelashes, this means the eyelashes that are in the telogen phase and the new eyelashes can grow out. Improper lengthening of the eyelashes can cause permanent damage to the eyelashes.
One of the most important facts is that the client should NEVER remove the eyelash extensions themselves, as you can damage natural lashes. It is unlikely clients will safely know how to remove eyelash extensions so it is best to visit a professional.
False: This is one of the biggest mistakes a customer can make. Eyelash extensions should be regularly washed, ideally twice a day. This should be done with a light foam cleanser and brush and should be done so with care. How long do lash extensions last? This can be determined by how well you maintain them.
Extensions will not fall out if we wash them regularly, in fact, washing them gives the opposite outcome – they will last longer. If we do not wash them, we risk the extensions falling out earlier, due to oil and dirt. You could also be at risk of infection such as blepharitis if you do not maintain proper hygiene.
